Risguardi is the brainchild of Vincenzo Barca and Marina Rullo.
Vincenzo Barca studied medicine with a specialty in psychiatry. His passion for literature led him to the world of translation. He then earned a degree in Languages from Rome’s University Sapienza, choosing Portuguese as his primary language. He has mainly dealt with African literature in Portuguese and, more recently, with the literatures of Latin America, in Spanish and Portuguese. From 2001 to 2009 he was a contract professor of Portuguese and Brazilian language and translation at the Faculty of Arts of the University Sapienza. He also translates from the French.

Marina Rullo earned a degree in Languages from Rome’s University Sapienza, choosing English as her primary language, and subsequently specialized in literary translation, with a particular interest in Scottish literature. For a number of years she’s worked for publishers and international organizations as a reader and translator from English to Italian, and her publications feature works for both adults and children. In 1999 she founded the network for literary translators called Biblit, which was honored with a Special award by the Jury of the XXXII Mondello Prize. From 2004 to 2011 she served as head of the Translators Section of Italy’s National Writers Union.

Both Vncenzo Barca and Marina Rullo have organized seminars and workshops on literary translation in collaboration with the National Writers Union, the Editorial Translators Union STRADE, the Casa delle Traduzioni of the Libraries of Rome, the University Sapienza of Rome and the Naples Biennial for Translation.
